bin laden doesn't have much to work with.
only armies of fanatics ready to sacrifice their lives for him, a government (albeit a dying one) ready and willing to support him, worldwide networks of conspirators, and quite possibly nuclear material. not to mention a seductive message which has the potential to suck in many of the very poor in the middle east who really don't have anywhere else to turn for survival. he's not the only one. there are huge numbers of people who believe that america is the devil, people who have such wrongs handed to them, which (rightly or not) they believe are from america, that they will die for their cause and their religion, twisted to fit their needs. al qaeda is everywhere. we didn't think they were here before september 11th, but there were dozens planning the worst attack on american soil in centuries. we know that al qaeda officials have met with iraqi ones. we know that there are soviet nuclear weapons missing and scientists with this knowlegde who were willing to sell their information to the highest bidder with the collapse of their empire. osama bin laden is not a unabomber hiding in an Afghan cave, cut off from the world. if we kill bin laden, there are hundreds of officials below him and populations of supporters to back him up. if we completely destroy al qaeda, there is the egyptian jihad or any number of other terrorist groups. doesn't have much to work with. short of a state-sponsered network, there is none to rival his. one of the reasons we immediately began pointing fingers at him is that not anyone cold have carried out such a massive operation. he has conspirators all over the world who are training and preparing for something- they just don't know what. but they're ready to die for it.
there's so much security.
a man got onto a plane somewhere in america the other day with a loaded gun on his person. he actually got all the way to his seat before he realized that he was accidentally carrying a gun. he got arrested after, of course, but they released him because, apparently, it was an honest mistake. another man got onto a plane with seven large knives, mace, and a stun gun. he got through security. he was only caught when the airline personnel- not the security- randomly searched his bag. sure, our airports are lines with national guard troops, but do they look through bags? do they perform searches? were there a riot in the airport, they might be useful, but otherwise... we're not really any safer than we were on september 10th. less than 1% of all bags are inspected once you check them. so if you had a bomb with a plastic explosive, such as semtex, the odds are incredibly small it'd be detected. and even now, a mere 8 weeks after over 5000 Americans died, there are constant security breaches, reports of inattentive personel... these people guard our lives. and they're paid minimum wage.
september eleventh is over and done.
as I type this, the new york subway system is being inspected for anthrax. a week ago, a woman died from anthrax, inhalation anthrax which just doesn't occur naturally in new york, and they don't know how she got it. the supreme court shut down for the first time in its history. anthrax. the congress was closed. five people have died. anthrax. the national guard is everywhere. we're attacking afghanistan. our technology coordinator is going off to join the airbourne rangers. we're in a full-blown recession, we're at war... thousands are still missing, more are still mourning. and even today, two months later, smoke is still rising from what was once the twin towers and the temperature of the rubble still reaches to one thousand degrees. eight weeks later. the fires haven't even stopped burning. september eleventh is not over and done with.
look. if you want, you don't have to care about what's going on in the world. you don't have to care if we're at war, if our country will never be the same. but don't pretend nothing's happening. because it is. every day.

no, i really don't. i feel like there's so much security and let's face it, bin laden doesn't have much to work with. caddie and carey probably totally disagree, but i think that september 11 is over and done.
